Chicagoland residents with various disabilities confront problematic circumstances as they seek equitable access to public transit systems in their home city. We sought to understand these conditions and the challenges these individuals face.

Having analyzed our qualitative data, we made specific recommendations for improvements and created relevant physical prototypes, where appropriate, to represent our findings. We see ourselves as advocates for policies that help overcome the barriers to access faced by these fellow citizens who live with disabilities.

“We had consider how to assume the role of “designer as facilitator” in this project, rather than taking the role of an “expert” in the process. We realized our job was to recognize the experts, respect and honor their knowledge through focused and inclusive framing, and connect their passion to those in power.”
