Plant ME
A game from a plant’s perspective
What if you were a plant? How could you strive to live? Plant ME is a 2D vertical scroll snake game built on HTML/CSS and TypeScript. The journey is from the perspective of a plant. The player starts as a seed that grows from the bottom of the ground. The player controls the growing direction by using arrow keys on the keyboard to collect nutrients on the way and avoid hitting obstacles. The goal is to grow to the ground before the water runs out. While growing, choosing different routes underground or collecting different nutrients will all influence the final ending the player will experience when reaching the ground surface.
The Space Between : The 2012 documentary "Indie Game: The Movie" illustrated that vulnerability is the connection between game makers and games. Though this project might not be able to express the breadth of vulnerability, the game design process built up my own understanding about game design from the perspective of designer and developer. Whether it's learning a new coding language or weaving the whole game world, they are all the moves I took to step out of the comfort zone.
