This seven-week seminar taught various design tactics and strategies for effectively distributing and brokering knowledge across multi-disciplinary teams, networks, and organizations to drive collaboration and innovation. We have divided into teams to each conduct a 30-minute workshop, each designed to broker knowledge in different stages and facets of innovation. Our team’s lens was called Embedding. We designed and conducted our workshop with the goal of helping our participants embed deep levels of knowledge and complexity into solutions and concepts, ending with prototypes made out of playdough, construction paper, and popsicle sticks.

“I took this class during my first semester at ID and had never conducted a workshop before. The intensity and speed pushed me in ways I had not expected and I was so proud of our team’s output at the end. I was really amazing by how the techniques we were tought flowed together to drive deeper, more deliberate thinking and how after 30 minutes, we were able to guide a room full of people to not only think about something in a whole new way, but build out pretty comprehensive concepts and prototypes. This classs will definitely stay with me for a long time.”

“It was a whole new experience in being very deliberate and purposeful with all aspects of designing workshops. Then it was being scrutinizing in analyzing the result of them to build a module for future professional experiences. It was mind-blowing and eye-opening.”
