Harvest is a personal finance assistant for those new to savings and gig workers. It empowers users through its simple and reliable interface to build towards a saving goal like a new house, a new car, or saving for future life.
“In the context of the prosperity of the gig economy, gig workers face practical problems. How to make a long-term deposit? And plan your own future life? Persisting in long-term deposits is a tricky thing, not only for gig workers but for everyone.
I tried to solve these problems during the design process. After the first survey and the second survey, I found that the most challenging part for gig workers was loneliness and determination to stick to it. Compared with traditional employees, the unique nature of gig work makes it difficult for them to communicate with colleagues or leaders. Loneliness accompanies everyone. So I decide to use the metaphor of planting trees to help gig workers form the habit of sticking to long-term savings and try to establish online connections for users and build a small group to work together for the goal. I want to create a warm digital user experience for gig workers.
In the end, I would like to thank my two mentors, JoEllen Kames and Jennifer Levin, who gave me a lot of help and patiently answered many of my confusion. Thank you again!”— Jason Zhang
