Still Life
Queer people in rural America share many of the same concerns and dreams as their non-queer neighbors, and they experience many of the same wonderful aspects of rural life, including vibrant community, family life, and connection to the land. They also experience many of the same challenges of rural life, including fewer healthcare providers, declining populations, and limited employment opportunities.
The depiction of queer communities in media most often does not represent the realities of rural life. These reimagined iconic artworks portray a reality that many queer individuals live in every day. As rural communities become increasingly outwardly connected, queer identities and values permeate further.
